In conjunction with the Create Columbus Commission, Columbus City Council launches a quarterly recognition initiative honoring young professionals who are making an impact and helping to create a better future for Columbus.  This Monday a joint resolution will recognize the first honoree of this co-creator initiative.

“As Columbus continues to grow, it is our view that Columbus will be more competitive if young professionals are intentionally engaged and supported as active collaborators and co-creators in the city’s future,“ said Jordan Davis, Chair of the Create Columbus Commission.  “This quarterly Co-Creator Recognition initiative is intended to bring attention to the capable young leaders that we have in our community who are making a difference in the world and in our great city.”

The first honoree is Suzy Bureau who will be recognized with a Resolution at Monday’s Columbus City Council Meeting.  She was selected due to her civic leadership and entrepreneurial undertakings that are empowering others to develop sustainable, technology-based solutions to some of our most pressing social issues.

“I am pleased to honor the work of Suzy Bureau, a truly outstanding Columbus Young Professional,” said Council President Zach Klein. “Suzy was chosen by the Create Columbus Commission and City staff to receive the honor of a Council Resolution for her inspiring work as a young, socially conscious entrepreneur.”

In 2015, Bureau hosted the first-ever GiveBackHack, a weekend-long social enterprise hackathon event.  With support of a Create Columbus grant, the first event was a huge success quickly becoming a movement that is spreading across the country.  The 2016 GiveBackHack occurred on February 19-21 with the support of $15,000 of private sector support and record participation.  Later this year, GiveBackHack will take place in Los Angeles and Cleveland.

Additionally, Bureau has volunteered with Startup Weekend since 2012, facilitating events from Ohio to Mexico, Ireland, and more. She was also invited to facilitate at the inaugural Startup Extreme in Norway, and in 2013, was selected to represent the United States of America at Global Startup Youth in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia -an event that brought together the top startup hustlers from 105 different countries around the world.

Full time, Bureau serves as New Product Strategy and Execution Manager at CoverMyMeds  one of the fastest growing companies in the nation.   She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Ohio State University with a degree in International Business and Marketing.
